News 2013
2013 Year in Review
We have had a year full of great and unforgettable moments,
but totally for surprise life also laid a dark shadows over us.
We lost two members of our family far too early! This is something that you can never understand or accept!
We said goodbyes to Totti and Tatu, who will always be loved and never forgotton!
They will always live in our hearts!
Despite of these dark shadows, we together did pretty amazing job both in shows and tests!
We finished our show season Titta being TOP IWS in Finland (FKC) being just barely over one year old!
She also won bitches at our Specialty Show and BOB at our Main Specialty.
She has also being placed in group rings.
We were just suppose to practise, but she turn out to be brilliant show dog with the createst character.
During the first year of showing she has already collected CACs and CACIBs from three different countries.
Patu continued his showing in veteran class being now age of 9.
He won BEST IN SHOW veteran at International Show being the very first IWS ever to do that!
This one of the moments that I will never forget, I was so proud of my great old dog.
Naturally we attented on few blood tracking tests and it was just enough what we needed.
Titta finnished her TRACKING CHAMPION TITLE with straight five required tests.
She is definately more than a pretty cover!

13. - 15.12.2013 Winner Shows - Helsinki
Our baby girl Titta is FINNISH WINNER 2013 with CAC and CACIB
under Colette Moldoon Ireland.
This was a great way to end our show season!!!!

Second day also after judges alteration we got Pia Itkonen from Finland, who did IWSs for very first time.
Titta res-CAC and res-CACIB.
During the first day after judges alterations IWSs were judged by Kirsti Louhi from Finland.
She still did not like my dogs that much, but improvement can be seen as excellent was given this year.

05.10.2013 Main Spaniel Specialty - Hyvinkää
The Main Spaniel Specialty was held again in Hyvinkää organised by Finnish Spaniel Association.
This show typically gathers together great amount of top IWSs in Finland, so did it also this year.
The breed was judged by Dominique Gornet - Cougon from France who was totally new acquintace for us.
We had absolutely amazing day after Titta taking the breed and Patus son Repe being opposite to her.
Patu nearly 9 years old was BOS -veteran and BM-3!!!
Catanka breeders group was also BEST IN SHOW!!!
Once again was so happy and proud of my brown curly loved ones:)

29.09.2013 Blood Tracking Test - Himanka
The last test of the season and our very last change to achieve the final Winner 1st result.
You can imagine the pressure was high!
Naturally nothing can go smoothly when you just have the one change!
When we went to our track, there was this huge Norwegian spitz standing beside our track with tracing collar on,
and I was absolutely sure that Titta would be mixed by his footprints all over the track. She did not!
She managed to solve the first part of the track and what next, there was this one old lady on Sunday walk
going just over our track. She just lifted her head and saw the lady, but desided to continue:)
During our track we met this lady again during the last part + three more enjoying their walk.
Titta did not mind about them and did great work!
Now I know that she also can concentrade!!!
She really earned every point 46 / 50 and OUR LAST WINNERS 1ST!!!!

Porvoo All Breed Show was held East-South of Finland, the longest distance you could travel from Kokkola.
I anyway wanted to enter Titta after this show was judged by one of the most appreciated IWS special judges
you can find in Finland. The one and only Rune Fagerström.
I must tell that I have been barely 10 years old when I showed my first IWS to him:) So this was really special to us!
Titta did her best by just being herself and charmed our judge totally.
And she took the breed!!!!! This is the one placement I highly appreciate!!!
In group finals Titta ended the day with GROUP-4 under Jochen Eberhardt from Germany.
We had long travel back home, but after this amazing day we were flying!

After many incidents I ended up being the responsible secretary for the test and naturally Titta got place on the side test.
Our judge was Torsten Lerstrand.
We were once again the last pair to run on a very hot day.
Titta did not mind about the weather and did once again really really nice work!
She ended up taking WINNERS 1st with 47 / 50 points which was the highest score of the whole test!

Jokilaaksojen Mäyräkoirat ry's test in Kokkola was the first test me and Titta had change to attend on Winner Class,
so it was more than exciting evening.
Our judge was Kristina Erkkilä who has tought me so much of tracking and handling dogs in tracking tests.
This did not make it any easier:)
Titta did excellent job even pooring rain attacted us right in the middle of the track.
She just shaked the water away and continued right in the end taking our first WINNER CLASS 1ST PRIZE RESULT!!!

03.08.2013 Spaniels Ability Test - Rovaniemi
For an IWS to earn a breed championship in Finland, they have to pass the Spaniels Ability Test
(or Spaniels Hunting Ability Test / Spaniels Working Ability Test), which is a hunting instinct test.
The breed championship can officially be earned when they are over two years old. Titta will be 2 in the end of February next year
when she needs to win one more CAC to become Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Nordic Champion at the same time
after she has already also CACs from Sweden and Norway.
The Spaniels Ability Test consists of 6 parts that all are judged passed / failed. If the dog fails one part, the entire test is failed.
Titta passed her ability test at Rovaniemi under judge Virpi Väisänen.
This is what she wrote of her..
SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR - PASSED
Titta is an open, stable bitch who is interested in strangers. She has no problem accepting other dogs.
SEARCHING AND SHOOTING - PASSED
Titta makes a fairly extensive search while maintaining contact with the handler.
After the gunshot, her search fades a bit a Titta kind of waits for the next task.
After moment her search resumes and she finds a lovely reindeer laydown where she had a nice roll. Nice work!
TRACKING - PASSED
Stays on top of the track using air and land scenting. Turned well to clarify the line.
Finds the kill (pheasant) after making a little circle around it. Sniffs and carries the kill back.
WATER WORK - PASSED
Titta rushes into the water without hesitation and fetches the game (riistapukki = is wooden stick onto which are attached 2 game bird wings)
back to the shore. Titta is clearly at home in the water.
OBEDIENCE - PASSED
Titta obeys the handler well, and there is no doubt about the common purpose.
CO-OPERATION AND COMMON IMPRESSION - PASSED
Nice couple who performed the given tasks briskly today. Now on to new challenges!

20.07.2013 International Dog Show - Tornio
This years summer shows have been full of judges alterations like happened also in Tornio.
IWSs were judged by Levente Miklos from Hungary who ended up being really nice humorous new acquaintance.
Titta was BOB with CAC and CACIB and Patu BOS and BOB -veteran.
14.07.2013 International Dog Show - Oulu
These Internationals Dog Shows at Oulu during the summer is one of the biggest events of the summer.
This year this Sunday show gathered together almost 4 000 top dogs from Finland and abroad.
IWSs were judged under Manuel Loureiro Borges from Portugal.
Our young beauty Titta took the breed with CACIB and CAC and Patus son Repe was BOS,
and daddy Patu BM2 and BOB -veteran.
Impressive FCI group 8 was judged later during the day and
YOUNG BEAUTY TITTA ENDED UP BEING PLACED GROUP 2!!!!
This was one of the greatest moments, she is only 16 months old!!!
We are more than proud and happy!!!!
She looked amazing:)

Oulu summer Shows were kicked on with the Limited Show held at Virpiniemi.
IWSs were judged under Irina Poletaeva from Finland.
Patu took the breed and was also BOB -veteran and Titta was BOS with CAC.
Patus son was BM2.
In the end of the day my old handsome Patu was placed
BEST IN SHOW VETERAN 3!!!
He had so much fun in the ring and looked absolutely stunning!

Gällivare International Dog Show in Sweden is held in absolutely beautiful place surrounded by
great mountains with amazing view.
IWSs were judged under breed specialist and one of the most respected judges in Sweden Kurt Nilsson.

Tromssö International Dog Show in Norway - what can I say, driving distance over 1 100 km one way.

Pahkala Hunting Club was so kind to let us to hire their hunting 'cabin' for the weekend.
Their landscape is absolutely great, but so was the weather and temperature raise over 25 C.
At the same time we celebraded the 10th birthday of Jokilaaksojen Mäyräkoirat ry.
Patu son Repe took his 2nd Open 1st prize and moved to Winners Class!!!
Happy and proud about Eva and Repe.
Me and Fiona the MS did not do that well after we were the last couple to start and the heat was already quite awful.

IWS Specialty show was held this year at the same time as Kuopio International Dog Show.

This was absolutely Tittas day! She was shown in juniors being just barely one year old.
First she won a big junior class and moment later also bitches!!!

Tampere always has great entry of IWS, so it did this year too.
IWSs were judged by Satu Ylä-Mononen from Finland.
Titta from juniorclass took the breed with CAC, she was too young to take CACIB.
Patu was BOS and BOB -veteran.
They both looked amazing and showed like a dream!!!

Titta was shown in juniorclass and placed Best Bitch 2 with CAC. She was too young to take CACIB.

The gala has been arranged for many years by the Helsinki Kennel Club.
The aim of the gala is to support working dogs in their important work and to celebrate great show dogs.
The CoC & VoV gala was held at the Fur Centre in Vantaa on the 12th of January.
This year 125 top winning show dogs and 75 top winning veterans have been invited to the gala.
We were really lucky to have Patu invited this year!
The CoC competition is similar to a match show.
The dogs enter the show ring in pairs and the judges choose, which dog will continue to compete, the other dog is eliminated. This procedure is followed until there is only one pair left.
The winner of the last pair matched is the Champion of Champions or the Veteran of Veterans.
In between the judging there is a dinner.
The Champion of Champions are chosen by three judges.

Once again the greatest thanks goes to my parents and my brother taking such a good care of my boys as always when needed,
and all the lovely people (there are so many, but you know who you are) concerned for all these memorable moments during the year,
and Anna-Lena for the greatest companion and just for being there when ever needed!

Highs & Lows of 2012
Our year of 2012 has been more than full of great and unforgettable moments,
but in between these lovely moments we have also experienced the darkest ones.
We have been blessed with extremely good luck and happiness, but sadly it is not enough to bring us
the health and strength we would have hoped and wished.
Together after all we did pretty amazing job both in shows and tests!
We finished our show season brilliantly at Helsinki Winner shows;
Patu taking the both Helsinki Winner and Finnish Winner -titles and being BOB -veteran in both shows.
With these wins we also sealed the IWS of the Year -competition with great point difference to the 2nd one;
The is Patu Show IWS of Year 2011 at the age of 8!!!
It is running in the family after all great many of the top placements of this competition are divided among their offsprings:)
We are more than proud of you all!!!
Besides of showing we had also some time to attend on few blood tracking tests.
Totti took again straight 1st prize results in all of the tests he attented during the year.
The most memorable moment is the test where he did absolute wonderful work
by achieving full 50 / 50 points again!
With these great results he is also the Working IWS of the Year 2012 at the age of 10!
My oldies goldies:) Titta will have great large boots to step into next year!!!
